Eye examination

At Milmedic, we offer eye examinations tailored to each patient - from infant examinations to adults, from routine check-ups to specialist assessments. Every examination begins with a conversation and an understanding of your needs.

Eye examination of premature infants

Premature infants can develop retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) - a retinal condition that requires regular monitoring from the first days of life. The examination is performed by a specialist using an indirect ophthalmoscope through a dilated pupil.
Screening is mandatory for all infants born before 37 weeks of gestation and/or with a birth weight of less than 2,000 grams, as well as for infants who have been exposed to oxygen or mechanical ventilation. Examinations are repeated every 7 to 21 days depending on the stage of disease progression - usually between 4 and 8 examinations are required.

Note for parents: Appointments are scheduled a minimum of 45 minutes in advance to allow the infant's pupils to dilate and prepare for the examination.

Premature infant examinations at Milmedic are performed by Prof. dr Dejan Rašić.

Contact lens examinations

Contact lenses correct refractive errors - myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism and keratoconus. As they are in direct contact with the cornea, they require careful selection and professional fitting.

The examination includes a comprehensive ophthalmological examination and lens fitting - carried out over a minimum of two visits.

How to prepare:

  • Soft lens wearers: do not wear lenses for at least one day before the examination

  • Gas-permeable (RGP) lens wearers: do not wear lenses for at least two weeks before the examination

  • Bring previous eye examination results and lens packaging with parameters

Employee eye examinations

Modern working environments put constant strain on the eyes - long hours in front of computers, artificial lighting and intensive use of digital devices can seriously affect eye health over time.

Milmedic offers organized employee examinations for companies, at special rates. Examinations can be arranged depending on individual availability - details are agreed directly with the clinic.

Frequently asked questions

How long does an examination with pupil dilation take?

The dilation period varies from patient to patient. It may take 15 minutes, while in some patients (most often diabetics) it can take up to 45 minutes. In some cases, the pupils cannot be fully dilated at all.

Can I function normally after pupil dilation?

After pupil dilation, your vision will be blurred for up to several hours - driving, going to work or planning any activities that day is not recommended.

Do I need to prepare specially before a routine eye examination?

No special preparation is needed for a standard examination. Contact lens wearers should not wear their lenses for at least one day before the examination (soft lenses) or at least two weeks (gas-permeable lenses). We recommend bringing any previous examination results and your glasses prescription if you have one.

What examination should I have if I have glaucoma or it is suspected?

We recommend a comprehensive ophthalmological examination together with diagnostics that include the diurnal tension curve (measurement of intraocular pressure multiple times throughout the day), visual field testing, OCT of the optic nerve and pachymetry (Ocylizer). For this purpose, we have created the Glaucoma Package service. For more information, contact us at +381603690900.
